Fullmetal Alchemist Episode 59

Roy is blind! Roy Mustang is now blind! On both eyes! Oh, wait. I should have used a spoiler tag :P

Just to show how ominous things are, a solar eclipse happens outside...

Let’s back track a bit of what led to Roy’s fate. Hawkeye’s neck gets slit and Goldtooth asks Mustang to do human transmutation. Hawkeye, though, adamantly tells Mustang not to.

Too much blood loss already.

In the end, Mustang agrees not to…

Cruelty?

But it’s not like he abandoned her. It’s just that he understood her rolling her eyes upward is actually a sign hinting of what is above…

My help comes from above.

So the chimeras and May are right above them, and they come to save Mustang and company. Jelso (if I got it right) takes Goldtooth hostage with his slime as May and Zamppano drop down to attack the super soldiers and free up Mustang and Scar. Darius follows shortly, and the gang takes care of the Bradley-wannabees.

But wait, Goldtooth drops his Philosopher’s Stone, and May notices and chases after it…

After it! Your clan's fate is in that bottle!

But the bottle keeps getting kicked around amidst the fighting. May is not able to take a hold of it when she notices that Hawkeye is already dying…

Choices... They sometimes suck...

She chooses to save Hawkeye, forgoing getting the stone for now.

Yey for Eastern Alchemy!

Hawkeye is then saved and her life is not in danger anymore. She’s weak from the blood loss, but she’s alive. May then starts looking for the stone now that the super soldiers are taken care of. But then this man shows up and picks up the stone himself…

The man.

Jelso drops down from above bleeding also, as he lets go of Goldtooth since another monster arrives…

Ok now they're screwed...

Bradley rushes against Mustang and pins him down to the ground as Pride pushes off the others to isolate Mustang.

Uh-oh...

Pride the kills Goldtooth also, and wraps him up nicely using his shadows…

Why?

It’s because of this…

That's a transmutation circle.

Using his recently assimilated alchemist by the name of Kimblee, Pride performs human transmutation on Goldtooth. Mustang is with him in the circle, so he ends up opening the gate as well. Bam! You get Mustang to do human transmutation unwillingly. It’s unfair, but that’s how things roll…

The finished product: see the gold tooth?

Roy is now missing, since he’s supposed to be transported to where Father is. Now that that’s all done, Bradley faces up against all of them, intending to finish them all off. But he notes that he has been fatally wounded, so this is their chance to make a name for themselves and be the one to finally kill off the one and only Fuhrer of Amestris…

Not that they really stand a good chance...

Scar destroys the floor to let the others proceed down, and takes on Bradley himself.

And so an awesome fight begins...

Bradley notes that it will be an excellent fight: two nameless warriors simply fighting to the death…

Meanwhile, Roy drops in on Ed and company. He gathers himself, and asks where they are since it’s too dark for him to see anything…

Get it?

And so Roy is blind. Truth took his eyesight away from his as his toll to go through the gates. Father remarks on the irony and cruelty of the Truth in deciding the toll. He mentions how one brother, while wanting the support of his mother, has his leg, on which he stand, get taken away, and how the other brother, seeking the warmth of his mother, has his entire body taken away, now unable to feel any warmth. Father also mentions how a mother, seeking his lost child, receives a body unable to bear children. And now the man who has grand visions for his country loses his eyesight and is never to see that country again…

Well isn't it ironic, don't you think?

Oh and interestingly, this whole ordeal seems to have affected Pride negatively. Seems like he is not meant to do human transmutation after all.

This shall lead to his downfall.

While all these happened, Al is still knocked out. Actually, he gets to meet his real body in front of the Gates of Truth.

Restoration to his body?

The reunion doesn’t last very long, as Al remarks that his body is very feeble and he can’t go back with that body and fight using it.

Well, he has a point there...

And so he leaves behind his body, and he returns with his army. He remarks that he will come back for his body next time.

Al sacrifices himself quite often in this series. But he's awesome.

Al’s body praises him that his soul is beyond dignified and that he is proud to be his container. But that benevolence is what might lead them to despair in the end. Why? Because now that he’s back to Ed and company, the five sacrifices are now complete.

Cue dramatic music.

And now, we are at FMA’s climax. Just a few more week left…
