The end is near. But can they really wrap everything up in the last three episodes? I mean, almost nothing has been answered yet about the world of Angel Beats…
Oh, the episode starts with a bromance triangle...
Instead of starting to answer some questions in this episode, Angel Beats actually throws us a new one by setting up a new enemy. Naoi gets attacked by some shadow, which attempts to devour him from inside.
Eww...
Otonashi and Hinata manage to save him and fight off the shadow, and Yuri quickly catches on as reports of others getting attacked by shadows as well start to emerge. Yuri gives out the order for everyone to travel in pairs as she sets up a meeting with Kanade to discuss if this was her work. As expected, however, this isn’t Kanade’s work, and this also doesn’t seem to be a bug in the system.
However, even before they get to the bottom of things, several of Yuri’s men get attacked by a swarm of shadows, and so they rush to help. Even Kanade goes out to help them, revealing her new feature that Otonashi requested: wings.

They manage to fend off the swarm of shadows, but Takamatsu, the guy with glasses and abs, gets attacked in some other place at the same time the battle happens. He gets done in by the shadows, and his body disappears. He reappears the next day though, but he has now become an NPC…
No more soul...
Seeing the dangerous predicament they are in, Yuri quickly gathers the entire group and she gives them a recap of things. However, she also takes this time to point out that Otonashi has found an alternative that they may take, as he has started to move with a different ideal. She gives the floor to Otonashi, and Otonashi explains what he has been trying to accomplish. Yuri dismisses the group by asking them to decide for themselves how they want to proceed.
Nothing gets by Yuri's eyes.
However, Yuri herself still has questions about the shadows after seeing an NPC transform into one of those shadows. She starts investigating with the hunch that someone has been reprogramming the NPC around them, and her investigation leads her back to the guild.
Remember to bury your old bases properly.
Seriously, more questions late into the series? Will we even get a satisfying ending? Angel Beats has been great, but maybe it could be better if they had more episodes to work with…
