So I heard this one had yuri undertones. There wasn’t much as far as the first episode is concerned.
Meet Modaka (no, she’s not magical), our main character. She’s a nice girl, eager to help out everyone as much as she can. That’s why she’s the only member of the Jersey Club, a club meant to help anyone who needs it. So she’s like the national errand girl.
But on this one fine day, she goes out to rescue a drowning girl. Naturally, she leaves behind her uniform, only for it to be taken away when she went back to fetch it. Interestingly enough, a blue haired girl, who later claims to be an alien, shows up wearing her uniform to return it to her.But this disappears even before Madoka is able to make friends with her, and she wants to, because she has this feeling that they’d get along. Too bad though.
Later that day, another character shows up, this time it’s Madoka’s cousin, who immediately inspect Madoka’s butt. She seems to be rather concerned about Madoka, wanting to protect her from something.
But the next day, what Madoka’s cousin feared really did happen as the blue-haired girl, Lan, shows up again to talk to Madoka. This time, they decide to be comrades, and Lan immediately asks Madoka for help and brings her to a local military facility. She’s being asked to pilot a mecha. But as the enemy soon arrive… … rides the ship and goes out to be a dummy pilot, since it’s being controlled remotely. It seems like she needs to be inside for it to work or something. It wasn’t explicitly mentioned. The attack fails, and somehow the ship’s link to being controlled remotely gets terminated. Control switches to Madoka, and the ship transforms to a humanoid robot. She manages to break through the enemy’s shield, and execute a german suplex. Match set. Madoka wins.
I like the mecha design. It’s slick and cool. But somehow the action seems to be lacking if your compare it to say Aquarion Evol. Don’t get me wrong, the german suplex was awesome. But there wasn’t much aside from that as far as the first episode is concerned. Also, the plot has yet to show anything really interesting yet, like no mystery for now.
The main character is likable, in the same way that your nice guy friend who can’t get any girl is likable. She’s okay, but not nearly as dynamic as the best of them. At least she’s not really as bad as the worst of them.
In short, it’s an okay show. Okay?
Points to Note: There’s a distinct lack of notable male characters among the heroes.
Subs I Watched: Underwater
Watch Next Episode: Probably.
