A kind of spin-off series to the Lupin the Third franchise, this series focuses on a female thief named Mine Fujiko.
And so the case is that there is this cult leader who is controlling his subordinates with some kind of mass hypnotism. He’s doing this using some form of ash compound made from some chemicals, and that’s exactly what Fujiko wants to steal. And so she infiltrates the cult as a bride to the cult leader, trying to poison him during their bridal kiss.
But lo and behold Lupin is there as well to steal the same treasure. And so begins Lupin and Fujiko’s fight of trying to outsmart each other in stealing the treasure. However, the cult leader himself is a tought nut to crack, proving himself immune to poisons and drugs. He’s still alive and has both Lupin and Fujiko captured in prison. Fujiko, being the female sleuth that she is, uses her sex appeal to worm her way out of her predicament, while Lupin uses some other smarts not shown to the viewers. Anyway, Lupin wins the battle of getting the treasure first, as he figures out that the idol used by the cult is actually made of the chemical used to trigger the hypnosis. The cops soon come, thanks to Lupin’s advance warning. He tries to escape with the idol, but Fujiko blocks his path and eventually the idol crashes and dissolves into the sea, and both come out as kind of losers in the battle. And so both thieves live to fight another day. Or something like that.
It’s a fun watch, and the art is definitely different and nice to look at. It has a certain quirk to it, which makes things interesting. But I’m not all too fond of the dynamics between Lupin and Fujiko, as it lacks a legitimate rivalry. It’s probably because it’s still early in the season, but no actual strategy or outsmarting is really happening. It still pales in comparison with Death Note‘s rivalry.
But hey, I’m sure the Lupin franchise has a following of its own already, and just because this is Lupin makes it worth watching already. Maybe I should watch those previous Lupin shows.
Points to Note: Well, Fujiko is sexy…
Subs I Watched: GG
Watch Next Episode: Maybe…
