English Education Concentration

The English Education Concentration in the Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed for students who intend to seek employment as a English teacher of English Language Arts for grades 6-12 in private, public, or charter schools. This concentration provides appropriate preparation for additional studies at the graduate level in English Education, Literacy Studies, Cultural Studies, the Humanities, Educational Leadership, or Curriculum & Instruction. While this major does not lead directly to state licensure for teaching English, completion of the program with a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the content area courses does fulfill the requirements for eligibility for a temporary license in the state of Florida.
Students successfully completing this program will demonstrate:
- Advanced skills in written communication
- Advanced knowledge of the Western intellectual tradition
- Advanced ability to integrate their Christian faith with the content areas of English and Education
