English Education Concentration

 The English Education Concentration in the Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed for students who intend to seek employment as a English teacher of English Language Arts for grades 6-12 in private, public, or charter schools. This concentration provides appropriate preparation for additional studies at the graduate level in English Education, Literacy Studies, Cultural Studies, the Humanities, Educational Leadership, or Curriculum & Instruction. While this major does not lead directly to state licensure for teaching English, completion of the program with a GPA of 2.5 or higher in the content area courses does fulfill the requirements for eligibility for a temporary license in the state of Florida.

Students successfully completing this program will demonstrate:

  1.  Advanced skills in written communication
  2. Advanced knowledge of the Western intellectual tradition
  3. Advanced ability to integrate their Christian faith with the content areas of English and Education

Following the Admissions Assessment, the following courses: BIBL1101 Basics of Biblical Living (Fall), BIBL1102 Christian Belief and Scripture (Spring) may be required during the freshman year in lieu of Bible/Theology electives. Adjustments will be made to satisfy all other course requirements of the degree.
