Events Archive: Cosfest X.1

First ever international convention this blog has covered! Yey! And that’s all thanks to the sheer powers of coincidence! Pictures here.

So I in Singapore this weekend, and I happen to chance upon a blog post that said the finals of ACM, which is in Singapore, was on June 25. So I took some time alone in order to visit this event, albeit I only had 2 hours available for this.

Interestingly enough, Cosfest is free of charge, and was held within the general vicinity of a mall. They had two tents set-up, similar to what they have in World Trade Center in Pasay. More interestingly, people were actually out there on the field, under the blazing Singaporean sun. And I would just like to make the point that it is hotter in Singapore in the Philippines. So yeah, our cosplayers should stop bitching about the heat ^__________^

That’s called dedication, my friends. I even saw cosplayers in full Vocaloid attire, commuting in buses, as well as walking along the major roads to get to the event place. Yes, with all the wig and stuff. Props to them.

Some more things noted:

  • Place was spacious, but man was it hot. Even hotter than Megamall actually. I blame the sun.
  • There wasn’t a lot of booths actually. Might not be more than 10.
  • NO PIRATED GOODS!!! That’s the way to do it, folks.
  • Their karaoke competition would kill ours. The contestants sing the full song, and not just a portion of it. And they actually sing decently.
  • Their cosplay lean a lot more towards Anime more than anything. I actually like that part.
  • No random gothic lolita attire observed. Thank God.
  • Wasn’t able to observe a lot of sluttiness. May or may not be a positive depending on your tastes.
  • I think they, in general, do better character portrayal than us, since their body types and build suit better. And yeah, also because they chose better. (Zabuza actually looked buff.)
  • We still own the mecha and armor scene. I’ve no doubt about that.
  • I think we have a lot more cosplayers. But their general average score is a lot better than ours, since we tend to have a good number of, “Huh?” cosplays.

Oh yeah, as a disclaimer, all pictures were ninja-ed ^___^”
